Birth Doula

Welcome to our birthing community! As an active member of your birth team I’m here for you. You are important to me. I’m here to hold space for you and help safeguard your birthing space. I share my heart and hands, so your inner vision is clear throughout pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.

Pregnancy

We will have two prenatal visits lasting two hours, in the comfort of your own home. During these visits we deepen our connection and discuss your birth wishes. My on-call period begins a week before your due date until labor has begun. We work as a team and I will share the nature of birth and explore your hopes and concerns around the birthing experience.  We look at the birth process and different options available to you. This is also a time where we can discuss nutrition, practice comfort measures and prepare for baby! 24/7 call, text, and email are available to you between visits.

Labor

When labor begins, I come to you when you feel ready--I can come to your home or meet you at the hospital. Once together, I give continuous support for you and your birth partner--words of encouragement, a calm presence, massage, and suggestions for positions. You'll also have access to my birth support bag which holds comfort tools such as hot packs, rebozo, knowledge of homeopathy, aromatherapy, and birthing ball. I also help your partner be involved at their comfort level, and offer guidance when needed. After delivery I stay for the first two hours and can help establish breastfeeding and stay by your side until you're comfortable.

Postpartum

When you are ready, we schedule a time to celebrate! We can discuss your birth story, I can assist with breastfeeding, postpartum care, and anything else you need. I can also offer further resources if you desire--such as support groups. I’m also available as a postpartum doula, lactation counselor, and can encapsulate your placenta.

It’s also important for you to understand what doulas do NOT do:

  • Doulas are NOT medical professionals

  • They do not perform clinical tasks such as vaginal exams or fetal heart monitoring

  • They do not give medical advice or diagnose conditions

  • They do not judge you for decisions that you make

  • They do not let their personal values or biases get in the way of caring for you (for example, they should not pressure you into making any decisions just because that’s what they prefer)

  • They do not take over the role of your husband or partner

  • They do not deliver the baby

  • They do not change shifts

Studies have shown that having a doula as part of your birth team

  • decreases the overall cesarean rate by 50%

  • decreases the length of labor by 25%

  • decreases the use of pitocin by 40%,

  • decreases requests for an epidural by 60%
